Billing Questions
How do plan upgrades work?
Upgrades take effect immediately. You pay a prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing cycle, and your new lookup allowance and rate limit apply straight away.
How do downgrades work?
Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, so you keep the limits you paid for until then. If you change your mind before it applies, you can cancel the scheduled downgrade from your dashboard.
What happens when I reach my monthly lookup limit?
Once you hit your monthly lookup limit, further requests return HTTP 429 until your billing cycle resets. You can upgrade your plan (takes effect immediately) or buy a top-up pack from your dashboard -- 500 lookups for A$69 or 1,000 for A$99. Top-up credits never expire and are used automatically after your plan quota runs out.
Is the free tier actually free?
Yes. 20 lookups per month, every month, with no credit card required and no time limit. It is meant for evaluation and low-volume projects.
Can I resell or embed PlateAPI in my own product?
Yes, on Growth and above. Free, Lite, and Starter plans are for direct, single-business use only. If you want to proxy, resell, or sublicense API access to your own customers, you need a Growth plan at minimum. Enterprise+ includes white-label licensing.
How do I pay, and how do I cancel?
Payment is by card, processed by Stripe. You can update your payment method, view invoices, or cancel at any time from the billing portal in your dashboard. All prices are in Australian dollars.
